Grandma Barb’s This and That

5 random facts

Today is Friday and it's Random 5 Friday over at Nancy's  "A Rural Journal".  Since the weather is crappy and not nice to get out, I thought I would post 5 random, boring facts.

1. I was going to go to Marshall today to get some blood work done since the weather was supposed to be warmer.  Instead we are in a blizzard warning.  Even though it's not snowing the winds are so strong that they are causing white out conditions.

2.  While I was not feeling well on New Year's Day, I finished the book "One Breath Away" by Heather Gudenkauf.  Tanya Breese at Around Roanoke had mentioned that she was reading it and it sounded good.  So I checked it out from the library and it is a good mystery.

3.  When someone mentions a book that they are reading, I go to Amazon and read the reviews and the few pages that they let you read.  That way I know if I might like to read it and then go check it out at the library.

4.  Since the weather has been so cold and I haven't been out taking pictures I think I will go back through my archives and post some of those photos.

5.  I've decided that I will spend a half hour or so a day sorting things in the basement.  So I guess I better get at it.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a great weekend.  Stay warm and sage.
'Till next time
Barb

glad you opted to stay in today rather than hit the roadways.

A half hour or so a day sorting in the basement is a fantastic game plan - if you don't mind, I'm going to share in that one with you, Barb!
It's just what my basement needs, and a half hour at a time isn't so daunting.

Happy New Year! Stay warm & safe during this fierce weather!

Some day I have to clean out my attic. Good luck on the basement. Your snow is headed our way for Sunday..and I am not looking forward to it. Janice

Your approach sounds good...a constant half hour a day will get it done. I must do that, too. Such nasty weather to be out in these days...

That blizzard is going to hit here tomorrow afternoon. They are already saying schools will be closed Monday...Yah! I do the same thing you do when people talk about a book. Couldn't live without Amazon! Stopping by for the first time via Random 5.

We're still dealing with the same kind of weather too Barb and what better time than to dig in and throw out or get stuff ready for a yard sale in the Spring. I'm about to do the same thing but not my cellar...I've gotta' tackle my computer room/catch all/messy desk/and papers that probably date back to the dark ages. I've been putting if off wayyyyy too long so these cold winter days being stuck in the house are perfect for getting things in order once and for all. Enjoy your reading...I'm doing the same too. Hugs and stay warm.

I have started to trade my books for other used books. It seems to be working out. Be safe and warm.

A half hour a day is doable when you have a big clean-up project. When I get a book recommendation, I get a sample on Kindle before I buy.

Slow and steady should get your basement done :) We've been having cold weather here too.

Just the thought of going into my basement to begin is like a nightmare. Good luck on yours. I will check on that book that you mentioned....I am reading "The Husband's Secret" right now and really love the story as well as how the author writes. I think you will find that it has some good reviews on Amazon. It has been on many "top" lists for the year. Stay safe, stay warm!!

Barb, you and me both have some obligations in 'sorting out' and 'clearing out' 'things'. It's a hard one to dedicate yourself to. I have made a start already, but find it easy to side-step. I think it's one of those "I'm on a diet .... or I'm exercising five times a week ...." the cogs start to wear out along the way

I hope you feel better soon. I too was loathed to take any photos this week due to the wind and rain over in the UK, it's too much to be cleaning the lens every second. Take care and keep warm x

I also like going through my archives and looking up images that I hadn't posted before. It's always a fun trip down memory lane.

Stay warm and well Barb; sounds like you have a great game plan for the cold!

Setting a time limit to sorting things in your basement sounds like a great idea to me. Half an hour is long enough to make a small dent but not so long that you never want to return to do it a second time. :)

Dearest Barb;
Oh, I also think you chose better option for a cold day.
Please stay warm, I'm sneezing now p;)

Sending you lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my dear friend in America, xoxo Miyako*

I think the Amazon reviews are great. I read them and use the library, or sometimes the Kindle lending library.

ooohhhh barb, the dreaded basement, i don't go in mine and i really pretend i don't have one!!

i am not a reader. i read magazine articles and blogs, nothing to deep or anything that requires me to remember what i've read. i have always admired people who read and i love holding books.

stay in, stay warm, it's frigid here at the jersey shore as well!!

ooohhhhh and as for pictures, a lot of my snow pictures were taken from inside the house, i hand out the window, honestly!! and all of my bird pictures are taken from indoors. maybe you have a window, for hanging out!!

a bit of the basement at a time sounds like a fine way to tackle the job ahead. I do not read reviews before I read a book, only after I prefer to make up my own mind and so far I've not been disappointed, actually I have read great books that were panned by the reviews and other readers, to each his own I guess. Mucky winter grey weather here.

Oh the weather outside is frightful….. Enjoy your cozy home and some good reading Barb. It's just too cold to go anywhere. We 'may' go down the road this afternoon to a sliding party at the orchard. I'll just be there long enough to take some pictures - all bundled up. Take care.

Seems like a good day to stay indoors and do a little sorting. I like the idea of setting a time limit - sometimes I do that and end up doing a lot more - but at least I do the half hour/or hour limit and find that consistently working on a project does get results.

Stay warm!

You and I have the same method of selecting books to read, Barb. I rarely purchase a book any more. The library is such a wonderful resource. Hope you can get out soon to resume your lovely photography. Enjoy your Sunday.

Once I get myself in gear, clearing out clutter is one of my goals too.

Thanks for joining in Barb and stay warm!
