This little guy/gal has been coming to my feeder this winter. But he usually doesn't stay long and is on the other side of the feeder so I couldn't get a photo of him. The other day he stayed longer so I was able to get 3 photos. I googled woodpeckers and I think he is a red belled woodpecker. Maybe a female. If any of you know for sure what kind he is let me know.
I am joining Eileen over at
Viewing Nature with Eileen for Saturdays Critters. Fly on over and see what critters others are sharing or share your own.
Thanks for stopping. I hope you are having a great weekend.
Until next time
Barb

definitely a red-bellied woodpecker, but i'd say male since his red stripe on his head seems to be solid from beak to nape (the female's has a break of gray in between).
Hi Barb, you do have a pretty Red-bellied Woodie there. They do love the suet feeders and peanuts. Thanks for joining in and linking up your post to Saturday's Critters.. Have a happy weekend!
Great shots of the woodpecker. I have seen a few in my front yard this winter.
That's a beautiful bird - and what great photos!
Oh what a treat to have this guy at your feeders!
I'm glad you were able to capture a few photos to share.
What pretty photos, Barb. We see one occasionally here, but never get a clear photo. Thanks for sharing and enjoy this day!
Nice captures Barb. I don't think I've seen this variety of woodpecker here.
Fantastic shots of the Woodpecker. Really nice.
I love woodpeckers, Barb. You are so lucky to have on at your feeder and to get such great shots. xo Laura
Delightful shots of the woodpecker ~ he must feel comfortable there now ~ thanks for 'visit' ~ Happy Weekend ~ carol.xxx ( www.acreativeharbor.com)
Beautifull dress this bird, best regard from Belgium
I'm not up on the names of woodpeckers, but this one is a beauty! I like how you got one in flight, Barb.
Beautful photos you have make!
He's very colorful and pretty for sure. I'd love to see HIM at my feeder.
Nice captures, Barb. He is a fine looking bird.
i linked up with critters this week too. i love woodpeckers ... they really are fascinating to watch. enjoy your weekend. ( :
Do not know what kind of woodpecker this is, but sure is nice to see! Janice
Beautiful shots of the wood pecker..I love the action shot...
He, or she is gorgeous against the winter background. What a great shot! You are so lucky to have caught him. Great photos!
Hugs,
Patti
So pretty, Barb! I had a similar bird show up here this week, just not a red head. After looking at my books I think it was a hairy woodpecker. So fun to watch the birds in the winter...
what a thrill to have him visit your feeder Barb'
aw just look at him!
He/she looks very grateful to you xx
Oh, how neat! I love the red-bellieds. We have a family in our yard and they are so fun to watch. I would also say this is a male. Great shots!
This is one of my favorite woodpeckers, but we haven't had any at the feeders this winter. Nice shots!
I am so glad you were able to capture and share him! I think woodpeckers are very pretty. That black and white shows so nicely.
I no longer put out feeders because of attracting other forest critters, but I sure enjoy the photos taken by others.
He is wonderful! And you captured him so beautifully. It's not so easy to capture a woodpecker, he is in constant movement!
Barb, I wish you a very peaceful and enjoyable week!
Great captures! I have a couple that visit my feeders but they are very shy. They see any movement through the windows and that amazes me.
Lovely shots! That's not a woodpecker we see here.
What a cutie, Barb. I wish a red-bellied woodpecker would come to MY feeders!
I think he is just so sweet. Pretty birds.
betsy
I love seeing the woodpeckers at my feeders, but BG not so much. He thinks they are destructive, I say they're cute!
Awww what a cute bird! I really like seeing woodpeckers. Their feathers are so pretty and colorful.
I love seeing those Red-bellied Woodpeckers at the feeder. Such an attractive bird.
Nice for you to finally get some great captures!! I'm sure someone has confirmed that it is a red bellied. If you were able to see his belly, they have a bit of red there as well. And it is a boy....I get them here and I just adore them!!
You should get yourself a little bird book. I've had mine for years, it's fun for I.d.ing the birds and I also write little notes about my visitors in my book!!
Such a pleasure to have these birds visit. Have one who stops by every day and lets me know with his "chuttering"--very distinctive. Also getting the smaller downey to visit as well. I like your feeder. Does it repel the pesky European starlings?
How lovely!
Dearest Barb;
Wow, beautiful picture of red-bellied woodpecker in the winter scenery♡♡♡
Reading Theresa's comment, I'm impressed how well she can identify birds (*^_^*)
Sending you lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my dear friend in America, xoxo Miyako*
What a perfect little feeder. I think I'll look for one like this. I love that it holds the suet, too. Have a good day and stay warm. Deb
Male Red Bellied Woodpecker, he is a beauty. Up here he likes suet! :)
