Cold Winter Skies

This first photo was taken on Christmas Eve Day.  The temperature was about -5 degrees.  Do any of you know what this is?  It's called a sun dog and is an atmospheric phenomenon caused by sunlight shining on ice crystals in the atmosphere, usually during very cold weather.  You can read about it here

.

This picture was taken Christmas morning with the contrails criss-crossing the sky.

It's been snowing here again today.  We are supposed to get 2 to 4 inches, but no blowing snow.

Have a great weekend!
Until next time

Christmas Lights

I remember riding around looking at Christmas lights when I was a child.  It was one of my favorite things to do at Christmas time.  I still love doing that today.  The other night I went out with my camera and took a few pictures of the neighborhood.

I made this one into a Christmas card for you.  The picture really doesn't do it justice.

I love that you can see the Christmas Tree in the window here.

I would hate to have to hang the lights in these peaks .

I love the simplicity of this one

This is a beautiful B&B

Which one is your favorite?

I added a little snow to this one in Picmonky

11 Days before Christmas

I received this in an email this morning and just had to share it with you.  I don't know who wrote it but it is beautiful.  Continuing to send prayers for all in Newtown, CT. ~ Barb

Glory be to God

This was eleven days before Christmas around 9:38
When 20 beautiful children stormed through Heaven's gate
Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air
They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there
They were filled with such joy they didn't know what to say
They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day
"Where are we?", asked a little girl as quite as a mouse
"This is Heaven", declared a small boy, "we're spending Christmas at God's House"
When what to their wondering eyes did appear, but Jesus their Savior, the children gathered near
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same
Then He opened His Arms and He called them by name
And in that moment was joy, that only Heaven can bring
Those children all flew into the arms of their King
And as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace
One small girl turned and looked at His face
And as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of your Mom and Dad"
Then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow and woe
Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand
"Let My power and presence re-enter this land!"
"May this country be delivered from the hands of fools!"
"I'm taking back my nation, I'm taking back my schools!"
Then he and his children stood up without a sound
"Come now my children, let me show you around."
Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran
All displaying enthusiasm that only a child can
And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight
"In the midst of this darkness....I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

The Winter Beauty

Remember when I posted the Beauty and the Beast here back in November?  I posted that big beautiful red barn.  Well here it is in it's winter beauty.

I found out that it has been purchased and the new owners are planning on doing some work and hope to have it open by April.  I'm not sure what they are planning but I imagine it will still be an event center.

Last night I saw a pickup totally covered with Christmas lights drive by.  It was awesome! But I didn't have time to grab my camera.  I hope I can find out whose it is and get a picture.

As always thanks for stopping and have a great week.

A little Christmas Decorating

I thought I would show you a little of my Christmas decorating before Christmas has come and gone.  First is my snowmen and village.  I have many more village pieces but decided to only do these 4 this year.  I have these in my kitchen.

I didn't do near as much decorating this year as I usually do.  Getting old and lazy I guess.

A lighted bouquet

The star on the tree was made from white pearl buttons and sent to me by a dear blog friend.

This is the Willow Tree Nativity I bought for myself last year when it was on sale.  I added a couple of angels, bottle brush trees, and an old drawer for the manger.

The next 2 are a couple of outdoor decorations covered with snow.

Thanks for stopping and have a wonderful week before Christmas!

Until next time,
Barb

Frozen Water, Cattails and Milkweeds

The post title says it all.  I took these last Saturday while out taking the snow photos.  You will probably be sick of seeing snow pictures by the time I get done showing you all I took.  I promise I won't show them all...Not today anyway.

Thanks for stopping.  I hope you are having a great week.

Until next time.

Winter at Jesse's Barn

Remember the spring and fall photos of Jesse's barn  You can see them here and here.  I drove out there on Saturday to get pictures with the snow.  Here they are.

We had a good old fashioned blizzard here yesterday.  I'm not sure how much snow we got on top of what we had on Friday.  Today is a bright sunny day but it is cold!

We've Got Snow!

Friday we got 2 to 3 inches of snow.  Last night we got about that much more and today the wind in howling and we are having an old fashioned blizzard.  Yesterday morning was nice, no wind, mild tempts, but cloudy skies.  So I went out taking pictures and after 3 hours and 200 pictures later I returned home.  It was very relaxing after the stressful week I had last week.

This is just one of the pictures I took.  It is of the old building I showed you last summer with the wild sunflowers growing in front of it.  Now the sunflower heads are covered with snow.  You can see the picture from last summer here.

I'll be showing more of my snow pictures in the days ahead.
I hope you are all having a great weekend.

Friday Fences

The 2 fences in these pictures are next to the barn and little shed in the 3rd picture.

Thank you all for your concern, well wishes, and prayers for my mom.  I got her moved to the nursing home today.  I wish I could say she is resting comfortably but she has a lot of pain when she moves.

Sunrise over the pond

This picture was taken at sunrise the morning I was coming home from my sleep study.  I posted another photo here.

Sorry I haven't been around much the last few days.  Life has interrupted posting and commenting. But I have been stalking some of you when I've had time...just not commenting.
I stayed with my mom over the weekend as she was having so much pain in her back she could hardly walk and get herself to the bathroom.  I took her to the doctor on Monday and she put her right in the hospital and ordered an MRI thinking she had a stress fracture in her back.  The MRI didn't show any fracture in the lower back where the pain is.  So she is having another MRI on Thursday of the upper back.  In the meantime she is in the hospital and they are trying to keep her comfortable.  It is looking like she will have to go to the nursing home for some therapy to get her strength back and see if she will even be able to return to her apartment.  It's been a tiring 5 or 6 days.  I will post and comment as time and my energy allows.  I hope you are all having a good week.
