Abandoned Farm Place

I found this abandoned farm place not far from town and had to try out my new camera.  This first picture was taken from the road about an hour before sunset.

I decided since the place was abandoned I would walk up the driveway to where it curves so I could see the barn.

There was this old farm house and another shed on the site.  These last 3 shots were taken from the road.

I know you are all wondering what kind of camera I bought.  It is not a SLR.  It is another point and shoot.  I cannot afford a SLR and besides I have a lot of arthritis in my wrists and it is hard to hang onto anything big or heavy.  So I did a lot of research on what the best point and shoot might be.  I decided on a Canon Power Shot SX260HS with 20X optical zoom.  These are all SOC except for resizing and were shot with the Apeture setting.  I have been trying to shoot using that setting instead of on auto.  So far I am loving the camera and the 20X zoom. If anyone has any suggestions for taking better pictures, let me know.

Thanks for stopping by

See you next time

Barb

You have done a marvelous job with your new camera! I have a DSLR with all the lenses, but I still use my Sony Cybershot with 10x zoom for a lot of things, because it fits in my pocket! I love the lighting on that first shot - magical! And, I am so glad you walked up the lane for the barn - what a magnificent old barn it is!

These are awesome pictures! Really like the closeup of the doors. Always wonder what the story is behind places like this with the big question, WHY? was it abandoned? You're going to keep on until I have to come up there and see that beautiful countryside. Wow! enJOYed.

Hi Barb,

What a fascinating looking barn! I love the red sky on your first snapshot. Enjoy your new camera. I've been toying with the idea of buying a new one, but there are so many options out there I can't decide.

The barn is full of mystery. I like the doors. I totally get the holding the heavy camera and having arthritis angle. I have rheumatoid arthritis and my hands and fingers have a lot of pain. I have a Canon Power Shot and a Canon Rebel. The Power Shot is a good camera and I was able to zoom onto birds really well with it. I think better than with this Rebel. I have learned a great deal from each camera I have had. My first point and shoot took awesome close ups. I will have to buy a $150.00 lens to get those now. Have fun. Olive

What a great barn! Sad to see the whole thing abandoned.
I have a point and shoot too - wish I could afford better, but it does that job. Your pictures are great, and I love the lighting here!

What a fantastic old barn..I would have gotten a closer look too! I always wonder what happened to the folks that lived in these deserted homes.

Hi Barb!
How fun to get a new camera! You did a great job taking these pictures!

It's tragic that such a great place would be abandoned and left to ruin.
Far to many places like that around the country.

Hope today is a good one.

Smiles :)

well, it looks to me that you don't need any advice. these images are gorgeous.

great subjects and beautiful light!

getting the best fit for you in a camera is most important. changing lens all the time can be a pain, can be the reason you missed the subject (you know, when they are moving) and the large lens are heavy!!

have fun, it looks like it's working great for you!!

Hi Barb, I don't think you need any advice on your camera use. Your photos are always amazing and I know you are enjoying your new camera.
These pics are awesome. I love the first pic that just invites you to stroll up the path. My goodness can you imagine the life that once filled this place. Love the farm house too and the barn up close.

Always a great post you share and what a great barn book your travels would make.

Have fun.
XO Celestina Marie

These are beautiful photos Barb. I've read that many pro photographers get great pictures with a point and shoot and some prefer them for certain types of shots. It's very obvious that you are a skilled photographer, that has more to do with your ability than what camera you use.

What a wonderful find!! I am always excited when I come across barns but when they are abandoned, it's so much more appealing.

What a wonderful place to stumble upon. Love the roof shape of this barn. I have seen places like this in my area that give you the feeling that everyone just walked out one day and never came back.

So sad to see them going to ruin. Some of these old places sit like this because the heirs can't be found or they are still squabbling over who the rightful heir should be.

Oh this is a wonderful barn and I love the photos. I have a Canon Powershot also I love mine. I could never carry a heavy camera either.
Great shots it is not the camera so much as the person behind the camera's eye. You have a good eye. B
