Barn and House of 7 Gables

Saturday was a beautiful, sunshiny day after our 3 or 4 inch snowfall on Friday.  I just had to get out and take some photos.  This farm sits at the edge of a lake.  The house is known as the house of 7  gables.  A classmate of mine used to lived there and when we were in high school some of us would have picnics in the pasture and swim in the lake.  I don't know who lives there now, so I didn't want to drive up the driveway.

I have been spending lots of time with my mom at the nursing home.  She was the best today as she has been in 2 weeks.  However with spending so much time with  her I am way behind on  commenting and editing photos.  And I am just plain tired, so I will be taking the rest of the week off for a little blog break.  Have a great week!  Until next time.

Weird Wonky Fence

I have never seen a fence like this one that I saw on a drive one day.  It is enough to make you dizzy.  Sharing with Fridays Fences at Life According to Jan and Jer.

For all kinds of other fences stop over at Fridays Fences

I hope all of you that are in the path of this latest winter storm and safe and warm.  We are supposed to get a few inches tonight and tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping and have a great weekend!

Until next time

The Old Gray Barn

This old barn, shed, and chicken coop have sat at the bottom of the hill near the Cottonwood River for as long as I can remember.  It looks like new doors have been put on the barn and a new roof on the chicken coop at some time.  I've never seen a house there.

I used to play down at this river when I was a kid.

Snow and Ice

Last Sunday after our snowstorm I went out and took some pictures of the snow and ice on my Sunkist Arborvitae and my Japanese Yew.

A little green for Green Day over at Raindrops and Daisies

Is it a Meteor or an Asteroid?

No, it's a jet and it's contrail streaking across the cold Minnesota sky.

I had my 3rd sleep study Thursday night and I was hoping for some early morning shots on the way home.  But the roads were so icy and I had a big truck behind me so I didn't dare pull over.
When I got out of the car at home I saw this jet streaking across the sky.  Sad that it's the best photo I could get this last week.  I did get a couple of videos though of falling snow.  Carole over at Caroles Creative Corner in Australia  wanted to see some falling snow.  I will post one or two next week.

I got my mom moved to the nursing home yesterday.  She was still in so much pain and they have given her all the pain meds they can without going to morphine.  They think it is muscle spasms caused by small stress fractures in her back and that just takes time to heal. I have to get over to see how she is doing today.

Well I hope you are all having a good weekend.  Thanks for stopping by!  See you next time.

Happy Valentine's Day

I was the lucky winner of Janice's giveaway over at Prim's by the Water.  I received these sweet little hearts, hand made by Janice, just in time for my birthday yesterday and Valentine's Day.  Don't they look good enough to eat!  Thank you, Janice!

Thanks to everyone who sent birthday wishes via Facebook, email, and my blog yesterday!

Sorry I haven't been around to visit and post, but I've been dealing with my mom again.  She is having so much pain in her back.  I stayed with her a couple of days and then put her in the hospital yesterday.  She will be going back to the nursing home.  Maybe for good this time.  She was doing so well and enjoying her apartment.  But then she started having all that pain in her back again.

Thanks for stopping and have a Happy Valentine's Day
Until next time

Big Red in Winter

We are having a blizzard today.  Not bad in town, but in the country the snow is causing low visibility and all the schools in the area are closed.  My neighbor was kind enough to come and blow out my driveway and sidewalks.

This is a photo of my daughter and son-in-law's barn that I took on Christmas Eve.

I posted it in October here

Snowy Sunday

It was snowing heavily this morning so I just had to take a few pictures.  It sure has whitened up the dirty landscape.

My backyard next to the garage

Neighbor's trees

Kids enjoying the snow

Temperature is about 30 degrees

It has quit snowing now and the birds sparrows have come out to eat.

It wasn't much of a snow storm compared to Nemo but they have named it Orko.  They are getting much more snow north of here.  But they have a blizzard warning out here because the winds are supposed to pick up.  We get a lot of wind here in western Minnesota.

I hope all the people in the North East are getting their power back and getting dug out from their snow storm.

Thanks for stopping!  I hope you are having a sunny Sunday!
Until next time.

Cattle Auction

Have any  of you ever  been to a cattle auction?  I had never been to one until last week.  Remember the post I  did of the barn that burned.  This is at the same farm and they had been planning to hold the auction in that old barn.  They ended up having it in the work shop.  Here are a few photos.

Some of the cattle to be auctioned off

You can see some of the pickups and trailers that were there.  These people were ready to buy!

The auctioneer and helpers plus part of the bidders
More bidders

Close up of the auctioneer and helpers who  were taking bids on line, over the phone, and from the crowd.

TV's were placed in front of the auctioneer so bidders could see what they were bidding on.
They also had a sale catalog with individual pictures of all the cattle being sold.

A different experience for me.  I hope you enjoyed the auction.

One more early morning picture

Good morning everyone.  At least it's still morning here.  Sorry I haven't been around to visit the last few days.  I've been busy getting mom settled in her new apartment.  I moved her to her apartment from the nursing home on Friday and have been spending time with her while she gets settled in.  Last night I went to a fun Super Bowl Party.

Anyway here is one more early morning shot of a barn.
