My Back Yard and Surprises

Today I am showing my backyard as it is seen from my kitchen window.  It's where I like to sit and relax, but with this hot weather I haven't enjoyed it much this year.

Added note.  This was taken 2 or 3 weeks ago and the grass is not this green anymore.

My yellow daylilies did much better than the orange ones.

This is my little garden next to the garage that I see when I'm sitting in the back yard.  Not looking so great this year but I did find a surprise.  See the lighthouse birdhouse on the fork handle.  Well a little wren built a nest in it.

Do you see her on the grapevine branch going up the fork handle?

Here you can see the sticks from the nest peaking out the bottom hole.

Another surprise I found in the garden by the house is this sunflower growing from the seeds the birds have scattered.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you are all having a great week.  It is still hot here and no rain in sight.

This week I'm linking to

Until Next Time

Barb

I love that the little wren took up residence in your bird house, Barb. They are such sweet birds with the most beautiful song. :)

What fun to have a wren's nest. Your sitting spot looks so nice. Don't you wish you still had that green grass? I know I do. I just hate when my grass turns brown as it is now.

The wren nest is sweet Barb. The heat is brutal for the flowers. I do not know if you were following me in the spring but I had a lady give me about 40 day lilies of all colors including red and next year they will bloom.I did have two red ones bloom. She has a day lily farm just about and is nearly 80 years old. I was so grateful for her gift.I know you enjoy that back yard. Hopefully the heat will break for you soon. xoxo, olive

We hung up a little birdhouse, just until we decided where we wanted it...and a little wren built a nest in it. Guess she liked the location! I love that lighthouse birdhouse - and I feel your pain at not being able to enjoy the outdoors this summer. I can't remember such a hot summer in a long time! You have such a pretty yard - here's hoping you get to enjoy it soon!

The little wrens sing pretty notes, I love to listen to them. The yellow lilies are pretty, I think they are my favorite. Yellow is such a happy color. Hope you get some rain soon. We are in desperate need of rain here and its so hot!!

I know how you feel, where did summer go while I hid in the house from the heat! I just love your day lilies around the tree. That's so timeless.

Is your wren singing non-stop? The pair living in our birdhouse sing and sing and sing. I love surprise sunflowers!

You have some wonderful shots. Your Daylilies are doing well. I really like how sweet the bird house and birds are. Even the clothes line, I can almost smell how fresh clothes smell when hung in the sun.

enJOYed the visit to your back yard. Yes, the hot dry weather, even late in evening, has not made backyards very inviting most anywhere this year. It all still looks great.

Such a sweet little wren to set up housekeeping in your birdhouse! I've got volunteer sunflower plnats too from the birdfeeders, but not a chance they will bloom before frost gets them.

It's a great yard! I have a wren that made a nest in a decorative birdhouse on my front porch. Hopefully the heat will pass, and you'll be able to sit back outside again. Here in NJ, it's just as bad.

The wren was a nice surprise and I am sure she appreciates the free rent.
Your sitting spot and garden are delightful, Barb.

Oh this is so nice! What a lovely yard. Great capture of that little wren!

It's been hot and little rain here in Western PA too. One small break last week with a wee bit of rain then back to the high temps.

I water the flowers and small vegetable garden faithfully but the grass is dry and crispy :( And the constant heat is tiring..I know that many of us across the country are going through the same thing :(

Nice to see your updated photos of your yard. I remember the shots from when you first started to blog.

My yellow day lilies did best also and I love you birdhouse. Lighthouses are a big favorite with me. I have decorative birdhouses around my yard but never gotten a bird to live in one.

You have had some pleasant garden surprises. It's sad when it's so hot all one can do is water the plants that need it most and retreat into a cool home.
Today was not as warm here - 84 and we could sit outside again.

I am envious of the wren! They are my favorite bird...though I love all of them, there is just something about them that I just simply love.

Hi Barb, the little bird in the lighthouse is so sweet. I love it when I find surprises in the garden. I have lots of sunflowers coming up out front. I had planted giant ones last year and the birds scattered the seeds. The heads are not as large, but still fun so I have left most of them. I have to pull one out now and then as it gets so tall and heavy it tips over. I will be sharing them in a post later today. I hope you get some relief from the heat soon. We have been unusually warm but have had a couple of rain showers. Yesterday temps went back down into the 80's. It was very nice. Back up to 90's for the weekend. I have been rambling. Too bad my name isn't Rose. lol! Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.
Hugs,
Jann
