Good news...bad news and a blog break

I found this picture today from 1957 while going through an old suitcase of old photos.  The reason why I was going through them is because I was trying to save them as they were  in my basement that looked almost this bad this morning.  We had 4 inches of rain yesterday and I found 4 inches in my basement this morning.

I called the plumber and he came right away.  He had to pump the water out as the drain was plugged and then he cleaned out the drain.  It took about 4 hours.  The good news is that it did not get high enough to affect my new water heater I put in last month, nor the furnace.  The bad news is I am going to have to throw out a lot of stuff.  The good news is I have been wanting to get my basement cleaned out so now I will have to do it.  The bad news is I will have to take a blogging break for awhile until I get the mess cleaned up.  The good news is maybe now I can get my basement organized to use as a craft/work room.

I'll be checking your blogs and perhaps leave a comment as time permits.

Have a good week.  I know mine will be busy.

Yes - good and bad~! We had this happen a few years ago and it does get things cleaned out, but not a fun way to do it. :)
Hope you are back soon!

Gulp! So sorry for your mess! Good thinking, saving the old photos! Insurance is for replaceable things like furnaces and water heaters, but those old photos are priceless!! Good luck with the clean up, just remember the goal of a clean basement and new craft room!

Oh, Barb, what an awful thing to go through! Maybe it will be worth it if you get your craft room in the end.

I have a basement and sometimes this too happens to us. I hate this for you but like you said sometimes these things get us into action.

Sorry to hear that, Barb! I hope you didn't lose anything sentimental. What a hassle. Glad the water heater and furnace were unaffected!

Oh dear Barb...
No fun..
Like your 'lemonade' attitude about it all.

Hang in there.. and I hope this week improves :)

Warm wishes...

Oh, no! So sorry about that. That must be a mess. We came home to the upstairs air/heat unit leaking through a light fixture on the main floor. Thankfully, they came early this morning and got it fixed. Minor problem compared to yours.

I'm SO SORRY to hear this, Barb.
What a wonderful outlook you have, though...
I must tell you the pictures of your gorgeous iris's are just beautiful!
I hope this "flood" was a blessing in disguise and you'll have an amazing "craft room" to replace it with. I can already see the stacks of gorgeous note cards and such... :) :)
Keep your chin up and I hope you don't have too much work ahead of you.

Oh, Barb, I'm so sorry. A basement leak is the worst. I feel your pain. We hadn't lived in our home 60 days when the sewer burst and flooded our basement. We were storing everything down there b/c we weren't done painting upstairs yet and it ruined almost everything. They pumped the water out our window b/c we didn't have a sump pump. I hope your insurance kicks in for you here. Good luck and keep up posted on the ordeal. Even bad news is lightened when shared. Regards, Andrea

I am so sorry this happened to you! We have severe storms coming tomorrow and they are talking about 3 to 5 inches of rain, so I am a little worried. Take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing. Big hug. Maria

It's great you can see the positive side of a nasty situation.
That old photo is wonderful (not the flood, but the fact you have those photos)
It will be great to get the clean up done and make a space for your creativity :)

Oh wow Barb...I'm so sorry you're taking a blogging break for that reason. Jobs like that can be overwhelming...wish I were there to help you out. I was glad to read there were bits of good news about it all though...love your attitude.
Blessings!

Oh, Barb I am so sorry! What a mess! I hope you didn't lose anything important to you! We used to have some flooding problems on the coast in Va. Our daughter let two vehicles on two different occasions get water-logged....my husband calls her the U-boat commander! :-) What a big job you are facing! I feel for you!
