1894 Barn

I first saw this barn in 2009  when the lilacs were blooming.  I happened to drive by it yesterday and stopped and took a few more pictures.

I have gotten to know the owner and have found out a lot of history behind it.  It was built in 1894 by Walter Sweetman who was part of the Irish American Colonization Company.  (Let me know if you want more information on the company).  The owner is keeping it in good repair  and is using it for storage, not for farming.  He  has fantastic gardens with all kinds of interesting junk old things in them.  I will be going out several times this summer to  photograph  his gardens.  While I am there I will get pictures from the other side the barn.

For more barns of all kinds stop over at Bluff Area Daily for Barn Charm

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a great week.

Gorgeous barn! I always like to see silos, too. Is it my imagination or is there a cross near the point of the roof? If so, I've never seen that before on a barn.

I like that chippy window Barb. It is great you know the owner. Joe and I often trespass and worry about getting shot at.

What a wonderful blue-sky day you had for your visit. That blue is beautiful against the red barn and green trees.

Yes, Barb, get photos of things IN the barn! My indoor barn photo shoot last year was awesome! There's bound to be good imagery in there!

We save all of our broken tools and add them to the gardens. Glad to her of someone else going the same. Such a nice barn. It is great for storage. That is how we use ours.Hope you have a barn filled happy week. genie

All the trees around make it a great scene. I like a traditional farm scene with all the farm paraphernalia, but the trees look great around.

That's one beautiful red barn! Love all the flowers & trees surrounding... plus, if they decorated all those trees w/ lights at Christmastime, it sure would light it up, wouldn't it! Just an idea for them... =)

Thanks for joining, Barb =)

This red barn is a beauty. I like the crisp roof lines and the neatness of it along with the nice landscaping. It would be a great place to visit the gardens in summer. Have fun! Pamela

What a distinctive barn design. Glad the owner realizes he has a treasure. And those lilaces are just lovely against the red barn--like seeing purple and red together although I'm not sure their supposedd to be complementary colors.
