Word of the Day - Doldrums

Rose  over at Rambling Wild Rose did a post about doldrums.  Number 3 of the definition describes how I'm feeling.  It's been a long cold winter and I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling like that.  Yesterday I had an appointment with the eye doctor right after lunch.  I had planned to stay in town and do some shopping and then go to the Y to swim.  After my appointment it was snowing and blowing so bad that I came right home.  I wasn't feeling productive so I sat and read a book the rest of the day.  I haven't been down in the basement the last 3 or 4 days.  So much for my 1/2 an hour a day.  I have completed one project that I will show you though.

The top part of this cupboard I got from a neighbor who was moving about 2 1/2 years ago.  It was filthy dirty and this photo does not even show how dirty it was.  It has sat empty all that time. The bottom cupboard has been in the basement for years and was full of laundry products and other junk stuff.  I forgot to take a picture before I cleared off the shelves.

I liked the color of the top part and I had some paint that was similar in color.  So I painted the whole thing with that after cleaning off all the dirt.  Then I collected all the bottles and vases that were scatter around the basement and put them in here.

It looks so clean and fresh and all organized.  Now on to another project.

Thanks for stopping by.  Hope you are having a productive day.
Barb

I like it! Very nice and organized. I hear you on the doldrums. When it's so cold and the days are short I just long for spring.

You did a great job and it is perfect for storing your vases etc. It is extremely windy here today...I can't seem to get motivated either!

looks great! i hope the basement is warm, at least. :)

You did a really good job. One project is enough for this week. You have permission to finish your book.

That is a cool idea to have a clearing cabinet for bottles and vases. I have the same thing going on in my basement with no place to put anything. Hmmm... Buy a primrose quick!

I think the mood at the moment is quite low but if you imagine this time last month we were rushing around like headless turkeys! Let's just take each day as it comes and find one positive thing per day, write them down and then reflect at the end of the week that, actually, we're getting there. xx

Nicely organized. I am not having a productive day. It's really cold here minus 24 and even though I am snug inside, my muscles are stiff. I am spending the day with my laptop and Kindle.

You're making progress at least. That's more than I can say for my basement. Spring will be here before we know it. Stay warm!

I think you did a great job with the two pieces...you're looking pretty productive to me....it won't be too long before spring and we'll all have more to do than we want....

Looks great, Barb. Boy, do I need to get my art room organized. I like to keep all my supplies out where I can see them-makes for a cluttered desk!

What a cute cabinet -- right up my alley. You did a great job of perty-ing it up. :)

Your project turned out beautifully; so fresh and organised!
I think the doldrums are part of the weather this year; I know I've been experiencing them as well. Hmmm, a cheerful flower or potted plant might help remind us that spring really will come. *hugs*

Super makeover and now you can find all your sweet bottles. I love the raffia on them. It's cold here too and snowing hard all day. It's the wind I can do without.

Now that was a productive project, Barb. It makes for a great storage spot for all your vases. We have a winter storm coming tomorrow. I'll be stuck in the house and maybe I'll read my new Nicholas Sparks book.

You are a project ahead of me. I will not paint until I can do it outside. I have items piled up all over the house and that includes big pieces too.

oohhhh barb, it came out great!! I really like your bottle collection as well!!

You definitely had a more productive day than I did! I've been on a heating pad for most of it with a sore back. We are having a really long stretch of winter; I don't know how folks in the north do it. Anyway, the cabinet project is awesome. You did a great job of giving it new life!

You certainly pulled yourself out of the doldrums in a very big way! I like your project and the colour you chose.

Nice project! It looks much better after the fact.

The fresh coat of paint made it a uniform piece and I think it turned out just lovely! I like the primitive feel of it. It looks wonderful!
It might only be one project but it's one to be proud of.

I love your cupboard!
I hear you on the long winter.
More harsh cold.. I've never spent this much time cooped up indoors all winter. I walked with our dog today, and felt like I froze my nose!
Looking forward to brighter, warmer days ahead. (eventually!)
I'm impressed with what you've gotten done, despite the doldrums!

Dearest Barb;
Firstly, I needed to check the word " doldrums" p;) Great makeover of the cabinet(^_^)v You sure are productive, my friend.

Although I enjoyed a bit of snow fall yesterday, I hope spring comes soon.

know where you're at Barb' -- sometimes we just need to step back and do that which you chose, read a book or 'do nothing' if you've not got your heart in it. You did well with the shelving unit; it looks so good now!!

So far I have escaped the doldrums. Although it has been cold we have had lots of days of nice sunshine and that helps.

I agree. This cold and long winter is enough to put one in the doldrums. I'm going to home to WA for a week. Hopefully that will restore some ambition for me.

Judy said...

It looks awesome! Now you got me wanting to do something with the bottles in my basement.

Rose said...

Doldrums...that describes me exactly. Not been getting anything done. Just cannot seem to get fully motivated...to do anything.

Olá Barb, também me sinto assim um pouco improdutiva e então tento fazer algo! Neste momento estou a fazer mais um cachecol!
Adorei o armário que ficou lindo!
Foi um óptimo aproveitamento!
